B. Verbs - Simple Past Tense

Read these sentences. The words in bold are verbs in the past form.

The swans flew for a long time.

The tortoise forgot the warning of the swans.

He opened his mouth.
He fell down to the ground.

We use verbs in past form in the simple past tense.
The simple past tense talks about something that happened in the past.

We add d or ed to the verb to make the past form.
Here are some past forms.

passed, looked, noticed, opened, shouted, finished, talked, lived, happened
Some verbs, however, do not follow this rule to form the past. They are called

irregular verbs.

Here are some irregular verbs.

find - found forget - forgot fall - fell go - went make - made

hang - hung fly - flew say - said begin - began see - saw
