Once a young man was travelling to another place by train, to attend a lecture in a place
somewhere in Bengal. When the train reached the station, the young man got off.
The man was dressed in a suit and a tie with polished shoes. He was carrying a small
suitcase in his hand. He looked around for a porter.
A middle-aged man in simple clothes went up to him
and said, “Is there anything you need?”
“Yes, please. I need a porter to carry my
luggage.”
“Why do you need a porter? You
have a small piece of luggage.
Can’t you carry it yourself?”
“Carry it myself? It’s
beneath my dignity to
do so,” the young man
replied haughtily. “I am
an educated man.”
“Oh, I see. So, educated
people do not carry their
own luggage?”
“Look, I don’t have time to
argue with you. I have better things to do. All I need is a porter,” said the young man.
“Alright, I will carry your luggage,” said the middle-aged man.
