“Is the stone soup ready?” asked the villagers.
“Yes, but I remember having added chicken to the soup,” said the
traveller. "I have some chicken," said a farmer. He ran home to get
it. He put the pieces of chicken into the pot. The traveller added
more water to the soup and let it boil. The pot was so full that it
almost spilled over.
The traveller now tasted the soup.
“Perfect!” he said. Then he served a bowl of stone soup to everyone there. He too drank a
big bowl of soup.
“It’s magic!" a villager cried out seeing how much soup the traveller had made.
“Delicious!” cried out another.
“But where can we get a magic stone?
Surely, this one has the stone used
up.”
The traveller pulled the stone out of
the pot. The stone was still whole!
The villagers realized that the delicious
soup did not come from the stone. The
traveller picked up his bag and went on
his journey. And from that day on, the
villagers shared what they had with
each other.
And the village became a happy place.
