become disabled and even die.

Gita: How sad! I think it’s mainly due to poverty. Without the children’s income, I guess the
family cannot survive.

Mina: Yes, it’s also due to lack of awareness.

Gita: We must do our bit to educate people to send children to school. All children have the
right to education.

Child labour is a social evil that has been existing for many years. Though there are many laws
protecting the rights of children, there has been no change. Satyarthi founded the ‘Save the
Childhood Movement’ and the ‘Good Weave Organisation’.
As of 2014, Satyarthi and his team has freed 80,000 children from slavery. In1998, he led a global
march against child labour.

Childhood is a beautiful stage of life. It is a time for studying and playing. We must report instances
of child labour to the authorities so that this evil can be put to an end.
