When they found one, the swans took hold of either end of the stick, and the tortoise gripped the middle of the stick with his teeth.The swans flapped their wings and rose up into the air.For a while they flew and came down again. They were pleased with themselves.%u201cIt seems to work,%u201d said the tortoise. %u201cIt%u2019s indeed a clever idea,%u201d said the swans.But the first swan warned, %u201cWe must keep all our mouths shut when we are up in the air.%u201d%u201cWhy can%u2019t we talk?%u201d asked the tortoise.%u201cIf you talk, you will go crashing down to Earth!%u201d replied the first swan.%u201cDon%u2019t forget that we can fly, but you can%u2019t,%u201d said the second swan.%u201cI do talk a lot, but I shall remember to keep quiet. And you two will have to be quiet too,%u201d said the tortoise.%u201cOkay then. We shall leave in the morning. Now let%u2019s get some rest, for we have a long way to go,%u201d said the swans.Why did the swans search for a long stick?
