Independence Day is celebrated on 15thAugust. On this day, the country became free from British rule. At the Red Fort in Delhi, the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag and addresses the nation. The National Flag is hoisted in schools and public offices all over India. We remember all the patriots who sacrificed their lives for the country%u2019s freedom. Parade on Republic DayGandhi Jayanti CelebrationsRepublic Day is more than just a holiday. It is celebrated on 26th January. On this day, back in 1950, India became a Sovereign Democratic Republic. The main function is held at Rajpath in New Delhi. A grand parade is displayed on the Republic Day. The army, navy, air force, police, folk dancers and school children take part in the parade. Tableaus representing different states form a colourful display. Children who have won bravery awards also participate in the parade. Gandhi Jayanti, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, falls on 2nd October. The entire country honours Gandhiji, the father of our nation, on this day. All over the country, prayers are held.
