The shoemaker cut out the leather and left it on the workbench. Then he went to bed.The next morning there were four pairs of shoes without a single bad stitch.The same thing happened every day. Before he went to bed, the shoemaker would put the pieces of leather on his workbench. In the morning he would find the shoes already made.%u201cWe are indeed lucky,%u201d said the shoemaker.%u201cYes, indeed,%u201d said his wife. %u201cWe%u2019re getting richer and richer.%u201d %u201cBut who is doing this for us?%u201d asked the shoemaker.They just did not know.%u201cShall we stay up tonight to see who makes these shoes for us?%u201d the shoemaker asked.%u201cThat is a good idea,%u201d replied his wife.So the shoemaker and his wife went into the workshop that night and hid behind an old cupboard. When the clock struck twelve, they heard the door creak open. The shoemaker and his wife were surprised to see two tiny elves dressed in old clothes. The elves ran to the workbench and sat on it. They took the pieces of leather and began to stitch and hammer. When their work was done, they arranged the shoes neatly. Then they quickly ran away.The shoemaker said, %u201cHow can we thank these kind elves?%u201d %u201cYes, I know,%u201d said his wife. %u201cLet%u2019s make Who stitched four pairs of shoes for the shoemaker?Who said, %u201cWe are indeed lucky%u201d and why?
