The Yamuna is the main tributary of the Ganga and joins the Ganga at Allahabad. This place is called Sangam. The other tributaries of the Ganga are the Ghaghara, Gomti, Gandak, Kosi, Chambal, Betwa and Son.In West Bengal, River Ganga divides into two branches. One branch enters Bangladesh and is called Padma. The other branch enters West Bengal and is called Hugli. Kolkata is situated on the banks of the Hugli. The delta called Sunderbans, made by the Ganga and Brahmaputra, is the largest in the world. The Ganga Basin is very fertile and the main crops grown are rice, wheat, sugarcane, millets and jute.
