PREFACEEarly Childhood & Care Education lays the foundation for a smooth transition to formal education from Class 3 onwards. The over-all guiding principle of the ECCE stage is %u2018recognizing, identifying, and fostering the unique capabilities of students%u2019 and %u2018achieving Foundational Literacy and Numeracy%u2019 by Grade 3. (NCF 2023)Keeping this in view, PUFFIN Integrated Term Series has been designed to cater to the needs, abilities and interest of children. The books introduce students to the basic skills of reading, writing, numeracy and general awareness of life around them. The series has also been designed to develop various skills such as association skills, visual discrimination, observation skills, comparison skills, and eye-hand coordination. It adheres to the recommendation of the National Curriculum Framework (NCF). ENGLISHThe English covers recognition and the sounds of letters in a phased manner with an activity in between to test understanding. Sight reading of common words has been introduced with illustrations for children to read with ease. Rhymes and stories give children the opportunity to recite and dramatize to strengthen their speaking skills and self-confidence. Ample opportunities are provided for developing listening skills, speaking skills, reading readiness and writing readiness skills. Listening Skills: Activities and worksheets for sound discrimination and comprehension have been compiledSpeaking Skills: Opportunities for conversation, rhymes, storytelling, dramatization, and picture reading have been providedReading readiness activities for sound discrimination, visual coordination and discrimination, and sight reading have been included for children to make reading interesting and comfortable.For writing readiness, pre-writing patterns precede writing of letters and words. Activities for fine muscle development and eye-hand coordination such as joining the dots and mazes have been provided.
