Block Printing
Block printing designs are carved on wooden or
metal blocks. They are dipped in coloured dyes
and pressed onto cloth in various designs and
patterns.
Block printing is also done with vegetables, such

as potatoes or ladies’ fingers, which are dipped
in colour and beautiful designs are made on cloth. This is called vegetable
printing.
Tie and Dye
Tie and dye is a popular method used widely in
Rajasthan. It is made by tying cloth in different
ways and then dyeing it with various colours
to get beautiful patterns. Tie and Dye saris and
dupattas are very famous.

Screen Printing
Designs are created on a screen and then copied
on the cloth using colours.

Batik Designs
Designs are made by colouring a cloth with wax
on it. The wax is removed, showing the beautiful
designs on the cloth. West Bengal is very popular
for batik designs.
