Inside the house the guests chatted excitedly. From the kitchen came the smell of
delicious food. The guests were served food. They were very happy and said how
lovely everything was. Music played softly and the sound of laughter filled the air.
The party was going well. Everyone was having fun.
The children gathered outside to burst crackers. They set
off the rockets into the sky. There was a shower
of sparks all around. The children were
clapping with joy.
A boy named Ali was
watching all the fun from
the terrace of his house.
Suddenly he heard the
cries of men. He heard
some people shouting
“Fire! Fire!”
Some curtains had
caught fire and the fire
spread quickly. The people
were running out of the house.
Ali came down at once. “I must call the fire engine,” he said to himself.
He quickly dialled 101. After two or three seconds, a voice said, “Fire services here.
Where is the fire?” “The fire is on S.P. Road, street number 3 and the house number
is 203,” Ali said. “The fire engine will soon be there. Thank you very much for calling
us,” said the man.
Ali came out and saw thick smoke and high flames rising up in the air.
He could see people running here and there. They were trying to put off the fire with
water. People were screaming for help.
Suddenly, a woman pushed her way through the crowd and cried, “Help! My child is
still inside the house! Save my child!” she sobbed. “Please save him.”
