“No, no, don’t go inside. You’ll get burnt,” somebody shouted.
But Ali went in.
He heard a child screaming from inside. The
whole house seemed like a burning oven. He
saw the child on a cot.
Ali picked up the child and ran out of the
burning house. The woman took the child
in her arms. But Ali fell down.
The smoke almost choked
him and the flames had
burnt his skin.
A few minutes
later, two fire
engines arrived.
The firemen came
out. They unrolled the
hoses and started the pumps. Soon they began to pump streams of water into
the building.
An ambulance took Ali and the little child to the hospital. At the hospital, the doctors
and the nurses took care of them. In a few days they got well.
“You’ve saved our child, Ali,” said the child’s mother. “I am very thankful to you.”
It was Ali who had phoned the fire services,” said Mr. Verma.
