“Oh mummy, my toothache is killing me!
I don’t want to go to school today,” he said and continued to groan.
Now Chintu’s mother knew that he was making excuses to stay home from school.
“Open your mouth. Let me see what is wrong,” she said. “Well your tooth is loose.
Let’s go to a dentist right away. He will pull it out and the pain will be gone.”
Chintu did not want to see a dentist for a loose tooth. Moreover, he did not have
any pain.
Chintu felt a little foolish and he said, “Mummy I think I don’t need to see a dentist.
But his mother said, “No Chintu, the doctor knows better.” When Chintu heard this,
he said, “Mummy, my tooth doesn’t hurt anymore. I feel okay. I think I’ll go to school.”
Chintu’s mother smiled as if to say she understood everything.
“Alright, now climb out of your bed and get ready,” she said.
Chintu quickly got ready for school. He was just about to put the books in his bag
when he suddenly saw a note in his diary: Magic show on Monday.
In the evening Chintu told his mother about
the magic show and all the fun he had at
school that day.
Mother smiled and said, “What
about your toothache? Shall
we go to the dentist now?”
“Oh, mummy, would
you believe it? The
pain is all gone as if by
magic,” Chintu said.
How did Chintu’s mother
respond when he said his
toothache was gone?
