"Well, this is all you are going to get here. It is for you to
decide whether you want to eat it or not."
And after lunch, get on with your spinning.”
“But I don't know to spin,” Letitia said.
“Have you learnt nothing in life? Peggy, show her
how to spin.”
Letitia was taught how to spin and make her own
clothes.
Then there was cooking to do in a huge stone kitchen
on an oven with blazing fire.
It would get hot and suffocating for Letitia.
She also had to do all the cleaning and washing. Then the sweeping and mopping.
How much Letitia missed her home!
How she longed for the same cabbage soup she hated before!
But soon, luck favoured Letitia.
One day, as she was cleaning the attic of
the house, she found a box that looked
exactly like the one in her home. She
opened it. She found the same key
with a green ribbon.
“Does it belong to the Green Door?”
she asked Peggy.
“May be. There is a door outside the
North Wall of the house. My parents
have forbidden me from opening the
door.” Peggy said. “And I won't. Because I don't like to disobey elders.”
One day, when the man and his wife were away, there was a knock on the door. Letitia was
surprised to see Jack, the boy next door in her original house.
"Who do you want? Our parents are not home,” Peggy said.
“Sorry, I lost my way in the woods,” he said. It is getting rather dark. I saw a pack of wolves
out and about. Do you mind if I take shelter here for some time?”
“I haven't seen you around her,” Peggy said.
