Have you heard of Abdul Kalam? He was the 11 President
of India. Here’s an interesting story from Kalam’s childhood
days.
The second world war ended in 1945. It was the time India
was fighting for freedom from the British rule. Gandhiji
declared that Indians would build their own India. The whole
country was filled with optimism.
At that time, Abdul Kalam was a young boy. He
secretly wished for a chance to do something
for his country. To do this, he needed to study
in a good school. But he never dared to ask
his parents as he knew they wouldn’t be able
to afford it.
One day, Kalam’s father came up to him,
and to his utter surprise said,
“Abdul, I know you have always wanted
to pursue higher studies. Your mother
and I are not highly educated but we have
great dreams for you. Don’t worry, we will
somehow arrange the money so that you
can study in a good school.”
Abdul Kalam was very happy to hear this.
