The space research activities were initiated in India during the early 1960s.
Dr Vikram Sarabhai, the founding father of Indian Space programme, quickly
recognized the benefits of space technologies for India. The Indian Space
Research Organization (ISRO) was later formed on August 15, 1969. It has
conducted several space missions successfully; including the soft landing of
Chandrayaan-3 on the moon's surface.
