5          A Tale of Two Brothers

          This is a story of ideal brotherhood, of selflessness and true love between two brothers.

          A long time ago in a distant town, there lived two brothers. They had a large farm.

          Both shared the work equally and they shared the fruits of the harvest equally as well.
          The elder brother was married and had seven children. The younger brother was single and

          lived alone.

          One year, the harvest was very good and the two brothers divided it equally between them.
                                But that night, the younger brother could not sleep. He said to himself,
                                          “My poor elder brother has to feed his wife and seven children. It

                                                 doesn’t feel right that he and I each get the same amount
                                                      of harvest. He needs more grain than I.”

                                                          That very night, he took a sack of grain from
                                                             his own barn and walked across the fields to

                                                               put it into the barn of his brother. And the
                                                                 very same night, the older brother said to
                                                                  himself, “My poor younger brother has

                                                                   no family to take care of him. When he
                                                                    gets old, he will have no one to help him
                                                                    with his work and to help feed him. It is
                                                                     not fair that we get the same amount of

                                                                     the harvest. He needs more grain than
                                                                     I.” He also took a sack of grain from his
