Arrow-Puffin-3_Semester-1 Maths 131COMBINING ADDITION AND SUBTRACTIONWhen combining addition and subtraction, we follow these rules :%u2022 If addition and subtraction are given together, we must add first and then subtract.%u2022 If there are numbers enclosed within brackets, these are operated first.Example 1 : 6295 + 1395 %u2013 600 Example 2 : 7000 %u2013 3000 + 2000 = 7690 %u2013 600 = 7000 + 2000 %u2013 3000 = 7090 = 9000 %u2013 3000 = 6000Example 3 : (4125 + 250) %u2013 1000 = 4375 %u2013 1000 = 3375Example 4 : Subtract 2198 from 5000.%u2022 There is a zero in the ones place from which 8 cannot be subtracted. Therefore, we borrow a ten from the tens place. But, at the tens place too, there is a zero. Therefore, we turn to the hundreds place. Again, there is a zero. So, ultimately, the borrowing takes place from the thousands place. The thousands place reduces to 4, and when the borrowing goes across and reaches the ones place, it gets 10, and the hundreds and tens place get 9.Th H T O 5 0 0 0%u2014 2 1 9 82 8 0 24 9 BMSD9 10Let's Understand Conceptual Understanding Solve the following.1. 4596 + 3451 %u2013 6380 2. 8614 %u2013 4938 %u2013 10003. 8928 + 100 %u2013 4390 4. 5285 %u2013 2000 + 500 Let's Practise 3.13 Application
