This mountain range is called the Himalayas. It consists of snow-capped mountains and peaks. It extends from Kashmir in the west to Arunachal Pradesh in the east. It stretches 2500 km length wise and 150 to 400 km breadthwise.There are around 140 peaks in the Himalayas. Mount Everest, which is the highest peak in the world, is 8848 metres in height. It is in Nepal. K2 (Mount Godwin Austen), 8611 metres in height, is the highest peak in India. It lies in the Karakoram mountain range, which is in Kashmir. Other important peaks are Kanchenjunga, Nanga Parbat and Nanda Devi.The Himalayas are divided into three mountain ranges, according to their height.
