Why? Why not?A desert is an area that receives very less rainfall. It is covered with sand and is also called a sandy plain. The Great Indian Desert is also known as the Thar Desert. It is located in the west of the Northern Plains. It stretches from Rann of Kachchh in Gujarat to the borders of Haryana. It includes a larger part of Western Rajasthan. It forms a natural boundary across India and Pakistan. Due to high temperature and very less rainfall, the soil is not fertile and hence the vegetation is minimal. Small hills of sand are called sand dunes. The hot and dry winds shift these sand dunes at some places.
