A plateau is formed either due to wearing down of mountains or deposition of lava over an area. The irregular edges of a plateau are ideal for hydroelectricity generation. Southern PlateauThere is a pleateau in the southern part of India known as the Southern Plateau. It extends from the south of the Northern Plains to the southern tip of India. It is triangular in shape %u2013 broad towards the north and narrow towards the south. It is nearly 1,600 km from north to south and 1,400 km from east to west. It is about 150-900 metres above the sea level. The Southern Plateau is surrounded by the Aravalli Hills in the north-west and the Rajmahal Hills in the north-east. The Eastern Ghats and the Western Ghats form the east and west boundaries of the Southern Plateau.
