The capital of Lakshadweep is Kavaratti. There are 36 islands but only 10 islands are inhabited. These small islands are called atolls. Minicoy is the largest island.The area is flat and is composed of coral deposits. Most of the beaches in Lakshadweep are temporarily formed when winds deposit stony particles along the shore. The main occupation of the people here is farming and fishing. Coconut is the main crop.
