Rotation

The Earth spins on its axis. The movement of

the Earth on its axis is called rotation. Axis is an

imaginary line that passes from the North Pole to

the South Pole through the center of the Earth.

                                                                                          Earth rotation on axis

           Did You
Know? The earth’s axis passes through two extreme locations, known as
poles. The northernmost point of the Earth is the North Pole. It is
located in the Arctic Ocean. The southernmost point on the Earth
is the South Pole. It is located in Antarctica.

The Earth rotates from West to East. Earth takes 24 hours to complete one

rotation. Rotation of the Earth causes day and night.

While rotating on its axis the Earth also moves around the sun in a fixed

path. The fixed imaginary path is known as orbit.
