Konark Temple
The sun provides energy and light for life on Earth. It has been portrayed
as a divinity in many cultures across the globe. Constructed in the 13th
century, the Konark Sun Temple in Odisha is a UNESCO World Heritage Site
that remains relevant to culture today. With twelve pairs of big wheels and
seven horses driving it, it resembles a massive chariot. The horses stand
in for the days of the week, and the wheels for the months in a year. These
wheels function similarly to sundials, which use the sun’s position to tell the
time!
Life Skills and Values
Many Indian festivals have a connection to nature. The messages of
appreciating and safeguarding nature are conveyed by these festivals. We
celebrate many festivals based on the moon’s position in our country.
Name a few such festivals.
