Let’s Recall
Plants have a root system and a shoot system. Roots are of two types -
taproots and fibrous roots.
Roots hold the plant firmly in the soil and absorb water and minerals from
the soil.
The shoot system grows above the ground and consists of stem, branches,
leaves, buds, fruits and flowers.
The stem is the main part of the shoot. The stem carries water and minerals
from the roots to different parts of the plant.
The stem carries food prepared by the leaves to different parts of the plant.
Plants may be trees, shrubs, herbs, climbers and creepers depending upon
the type of stem they have.
Flowers grow into fruits and vegetables.
Fruits contain seeds and they protect the seeds. When seeds fall on the soil,
they grow into new plants.
