The Shoot System
The shoot system grows above the ground. It is the upper part of the plant.
It consists of stem, branches, leaves, buds, fruits and flowers.
Stem
The stem is the main part of the shoot. Different plants have different kinds
of stems.
Stems of plants are usually straight, but in some plants, they are creeping
or twisted. Examples – money plant, common ivy, grapevine.

The stems of some plants are
strong and some are weak.
Examples – sugarcane (strong
stem) and beans (weak stem).

The stems of some plants are
rough and some are smooth.
For example, the stem of a
mango tree is rough whereas
the stem of a bamboo tree is
smooth.
