In the evenings, Sinbad invited his friends. He served them nice food. They also listened
to music. But most of all, his friends enjoyed listening to Sinbad’s stories.
One evening, Sinbad showed his friends a bag of diamonds. His friends couldn’t believe
their eyes. “Diamonds! How beautiful!” they cried.
“Where did you get them from, Sinbad?”
Sinbad smiled. “That’s a big story,” he said. What did Sinbad’s
friends enjoy?
“Tell us the story,” begged his friends.
And Sinbad told them the story of the diamonds :
“My friends, you know I am a sailor and I love sailing on the seas. So, I set out on a
voyage with some merchants. We sailed from one island to the other. One morning, we
landed on a small island. We found no houses, no people on it. There were many trees
full of ripe fruit. I picked some fruits and ate them. After that, I took a nap.
But when I woke up, it was evening. The island was very quiet. Where were my men?
“Hi! Ho!” I called. But no one answered. I ran to board the ship. The ship was gone! I
was left all alone on the island!
I climbed a tall tree. I looked around and saw nothing but water. I looked over the
island. Suddenly, I saw a strange thing that looked like a huge ball. It was a giant bird.
