          A.  Adverbs

                An adverb is a word that can modify or describe a verb adjective, another adverb or an entire
              sentence.
              Words that end in-ly are often adverbs, which means they describe actions.


              Study the sentences below. The words in bold are adverbs.
              ●   The cyclist rang his bell at the gate frantically.

              ●   The neighbours looked accusingly at Dasa.

              ●   Dasa asked triumphantly, “Where is the cobra?”
              ●   He picked up the pot cautiously.


              Complete the sentences with suitable adverbs from the box.

          B.  Phrasal Verbs
                A phrasal verb is a group of words that functions as a verb and is made up of a verb and a
              preposition, an adverb or both.
              The meaning of a phrasal verb is different from the individual words.


                Study the following sentences. The words in bold are phrasal verbs.
              ●   Some neighbours dropped in. (paid an unexpected or casual visit)

              ●   The car broke down on the way. (stopped working)

              ●   They called off the meeting. (cancelled)
