Reading Comprehension Passages-2
1. Spiders and their Webs
Read the passage and answer the questions that follow.
Have you ever touched a spider web?
Do you remember how hard it was to get the web off your fingers? Anyone who has ever touched
one knows that spider webs are very sticky. Spiders make their webs sticky by secreting a substance
on the threads of the web. When flies or bugs get caught in the web,
they cannot get out easily. The spider wraps them in more of its sticky
silk. Then the spider enjoys its meal! But if a spider web is so sticky,
what keeps the spider itself from getting stuck in it? The reason is that
some threads in the web do not have any sticky substance on them.
The spider knows which ones are sticky and which are not. The spider
easily walks across the web by stepping only on the dry threads! Spiders also clean themselves
frequently so that they can walk on the threads without getting stuck.
