Even just a hundred years ago, most people didn’t have access to aeroplanes.
They had to travel by horses, trains or cars. For most people, travelling by an aeroplane was
still a thing of the future.
But today more than 1,00,000 flights take off every day, and around 6 million people fly
every day. Aeroplanes have indeed revolutionized travel across the world. You can reach
your destination in just a few hours! And travel by aeroplane is hassle-free !
Once you reach the airport you check in. Then you collect your boarding pass. After that you
hand over all the heavy baggage at the counter, and carry only the hand baggage with you.
Then of course, you go through a security check. And now you are in the lounge. Finally, you
go to a place called a ‘gate’ for your flight. You wait there and listen for an announcement
that it's time to board the plane. Once you enter the plane you are greeted by the flight
attendants. Then you find your seat, sit and buckle up. Simple isn’t it! The flight attendants
will make some announcements that help us stay safe on the trip.
And it’s time for take off! You can feel the plane going faster and faster as it goes down the
runway. It can get up to 300 km per hour! And then, the plane lifts off into the air! You feel a little
bumpy. And once the plane is above the clouds, it feels like you are on the ground. You can
hardly feel any movement! The plane gets higher and higher so that there will be less air
pressure.
And sometimes, the plane might also go through something called turbulence, which makes
the ride a little bumpy. It feels like the plane is going over a bump, like in a car, but it’s just
air! It just means that the air around the plane is moving around like the wind on the ground.
