However, turbulence is a normal part

of flying. The pilot might even make
          an announcement when you are
          going to feel some bumps.

Finally, when you are getting close to

your destination, the plane will start
getting ready to land! As the plane
descends, you might feel changes in
air pressure again. The plane gets

lower and lower and you will feel the
wheels touch the ground with a thud,

and the plane is driving down the
runway again. Then the plane slowly
stops and you get off the plane.

          That was interesting, wasn’t it?

          But who invented the aeroplane?

On December 17, 1903, in Kitty
          Hawk, North Carolina, Orville and

Wilbur Wright made the first flight
          in an engine-powered aeroplane.

But it didn’t happen overnight. They
first became interested in gliders. A
glider is an aircraft with fixed wings

but no power supply. The flow of wind past the wings keeps the glider in the air. The Wright
Brothers started testing gliders. They tried different kinds of wings and control systems.

After studying gliders, the Wright Brothers decided to design and build an aeroplane. An
aeroplane is like a glider but it has its own power supply. In 1903, the Wright Brothers built

an aeroplane with a gasoline engine. They continued to make improvements. By 1905, they
could stay in the air for about 40 minutes.

In 1908, the Wright Brothers sold an aeroplane to the US Army. Then, they began
demonstrating aeroplanes in the United States and Europe. They soon became famous.

However, the modern day aeroplane is very different from that built by the Wright Brothers.

Modern planes are capable of flying at much higher altitudes and over much longer distances
          than the Wright Flyer.
