Sakhi: Hi Vishal! How are you?
I
Vishal: am fine, thank you. How are you?
I
Sakhi: am very well, thanks. So, what’s new?
Vishal: Nothing much.
Today, we had a discussion in class on gender
bias.
Sakhi: Interesting. We say men and women are equal,
but there’s still a lot of gender discrimination.
Vishal: Particularly in uneducated families.
Sakhi: It happens in educated families too. Boys are given preference over girls. Education is
considered important for boys in many families. And girls are given household chores to do.
Vishal: True. But things have changed.
I see many women excelling in different fields.
Sakhi: Yes, but that’s a small percentage. Unless this discrimination is eliminated, there will be no
progress.
Vishal: Absolutely right. We must change our outlook. In the western countries, women have equal
opportunities.
Sakhi: Hope we learn some lessons from them.

Life Skills and Values
Men and women are equal in all respects. It is not right to think men are superior to women. Both
men and women should do household chores. There’s nothing like a man’s work or a woman’s work.
Men and women must respect each other and work in harmony.
