            Grammar Skills

          A. Simple Past and Past Continuous Tense
The simple past tense describes completed actions or events in the past.

Example: I woke up early this morning.
It is formed thus : subject + past form of the verb + other words

The past continuous tense shows that an activity was in progress for some time in the past.
Example: We were cleaning the house all morning.

It is formed thus: subject + was / were + ing form of verb + other words
The past continuous tense and the simple past tense are used to show how two past actions
              or situations are connected.

When we use these tenses together, it shows us that the simple past action happened in the
middle of the past continuous action, while it was in progress.

Example: We were watching television when the door bell rang.

Fill in the blanks with simple past tense or past continuous tense of the verb in brackets.
