PLANTS IN MUDDY SWAMPSThe mangrove tree grows in muddy swamps. They are marshy places. The soil is very sticky and clayey, and has a lot of water in it. Air cannot reach the roots. So, it is very difficult for plants to grow here. But then how does this tree adapt itself to these conditions? The tree has roots that grow out of the soil. They are called breathing roots. They absorb the air that the tree needs.PLANTS IN COASTAL AREASYou can see a lot of coconut trees growing in coastal areas where the water is salty. It is extremely hot there. The soil is sandy and the air has a lot of water vapour. These places also get heavy rainfall.A coconut tree has a strong and flexible stem, and long roots which grow deep into the ground and thick shiny leaves formed of many long strips to tolerate strong winds and reflect strong sunlight.ADAPTATIONS IN AQUATIC (WATER) PLANTSAquatic plants are of three kinds.%u2022 floating plants %u2022 fixed plants %u2022 underwater plantsFLOATING PLANTS Water hyacinth and duckweed are plants that float on water. Do you know what helps them do this? They have light and spongy stems that help them float on water.mangrove treecoconut treesduckweed water hyacinthCoconut trees can produce up to 75 fruits per year and are known as the %u201cTree of Life%u201d due to their many uses!Did you know? How does a coconut tree adapt to its coastal environment?
