UNDERWATER PLANTS Tape grass, and pondweed are some plants which are completely submerged in water. They have thin and narrow leaves which arise in clusters from the roots. They have no stomata. So, the plants take in air directly through their body surface.FIXED PLANTS Water lily and lotus are plants that have their roots fixed to the bed of the pond. The stems are thin, long and hollow. These help the plants to reach the surface of the water. The leaves are broad and flat with a waxy coating on the surface to prevent them from rotting.water lily lotustape grass pondweedThe lotus flower opens during the day and closes by night. The lotus stem is eaten by many people.Did you know?terrestrial plants : plants that live on landaquatic plants : plants that live in wateradaptations : special features in plants that help them survive in their environmentdeserts : places with hot and dry climate with little or no rainfallspines : sharp, thorn-like leaves in a desert plantswamp : a wet, muddy or marshy placebreathing roots : roots that grow out of the soil and absorb airevergreen plants : plants that do not shed their leavesplains : a large area of flat land with few treesKey TermsThere are many other plants that show different adaptations.
