Many people in villages cannot afford pucca
houses. They live in kutcha houses built with

mud, straw, leaves and bamboo. These houses

have roofs made of coconut or palm leaves,

grass and mud. They are known as huts. Some

kutcha houses have sloping roofs. They can be Hut
easily destroyed by strong winds or heavy rains.

          These are temporary houses.

Did You A slum is a group of homes in an area with poor sanitation.
Know? In cities, the poor cannot afford to own a home. They

reside in tiny huts known as jhuggis. They are made of
                     readily available and low-cost materials.

                                                                                                    Jhuggi
          Uncommon houses

We find different kinds of houses in different parts of India and other

countries. These houses are special and are

          found only in those regions.

In hilly places like Kashmir, Shimla and
Manali, where there is heavy rainfall and

snowfall, houses are built with wood and

stone. These houses have sloping roofs to

allow rainwater and snow to slide down freely.
                                                                                      House with sloping roofs
