B. COMMUNICATION
Communication is always related to travel and transport. Apart from
travelling we also need to communicate with our relatives and friends.
Communication is the exchange of information, messages, ideas and
thoughts between two or more people.
Early humans communicated with each
other through sounds, hand gestures,
drawings and symbols. They would draw
on cave walls to convey messages before
they learnt to speak a language.
When did communication begin?
Early human drawings to communicate
Communication through drawn symbols
began thousands of years ago. These symbols were drawn on animal skin
or palm leaves to represent distinct sounds. Humans began writing with
the invention of the alphabet. The invention of the printing press in 1443,
allowed for the continuous printing of multiple books.
Did You
Know? Woodblock printing was originally used to print on textiles such
as linen or silk but it was later used on paper. The Diamond
Sutra, a Buddhist book from Dunhuang, China, published
around 868 A.D. during the Tang Dynasty, is said to be the first
known printed book made with wooodblock printing.
Nowadays we have various fast, means of communication and gestures.
We say many things by making gestures with our hands or faces.
