13. Waste
Management
All of us throw out much waste or garbage daily from our
houses, schools, hospitals, shops and offices. Everyday
groceries like rice, wheat, pulses, biscuits, milk or oil are
packed in plastic bags or tins or cartons. We throw away
this wrapping material into waste bins.
Our daily activities generate so much waste. Most of the things that we use
degenerate and lose their utility after some time.
We use many things that become unusable after
we use them only once. We throw them away. For
example, we use paper napkins, disposable plates
and glasses, and discard them after only one use.
Find It
Out What kind of waste do you put in your classroom’s dustbin?
Everything useless to us is thrown away. Everything
that we throw after its use is called garbage. Paper bags,
empty polythene bags, bottles, empty matchboxes,
pencil shavings, and so on are examples of waste
materials.
What is domestic waste?
Waste that comes from our houses and residential areas
is called domestic waste. Vegetable and fruit peels, garden
waste, used containers, damaged vessels, old clothes and
sewage are all domestic waste. Water used in the kitchen
Domestic waste and washing machines is also domestic waste.
