More than 3/4 part of our earth’s surface is covered with water. It means that

there is plenty of water on the earth. But we cannot use all the water for drinking.
The oceans contain over 97% of all water.

Ocean water is salty and unsafe to drink. 2% Glaciers
There is another 2% of water in the form of
glaciers that cannot be drunk. We can only
drink 1% of the water that is found in lakes,
rivers and other freshwater bodies.

Know? If there is one bucket of water on Earth, then
there are only two spoonfuls of water available 1% Freshwater bodies
for human consumption. Only 1% of the water we
consume is for uses other than drinking.
Sources of Water
Rainwater is the most important source of water. This water flows and gets
collected in oceans, seas, lakes and rivers. These are all natural sources of water.

Ground Water
Some of the rainwater seeps down into the ground. It gets collected in the layers
of the rocks and the soil. This is called groundwater. We dig holes in the ground to
