Water birds have flat and broad beaks with holes
on both sides. Mud and water flow through these
holes. These birds eat the plants and insects that
live in the water. Ducks and geese have these beaks.

Think & Do all birds have strong beaks and claws?
Answer What are they made of?
Feet and Claws
Birds have a pair of feet with four toes on each called the claws. Birds catch and
hold food with their feet and claws.
They also use their claws to protect themselves against enemies and perch on
trees.
Flesh-eating birds: Birds of prey, such as eagles and falcons, have very strong
and pointed claws called talons.
These birds come down from the
sky to catch and hold their prey
at great speed.
Perching birds: Birds such as Eagle Falcon
crows, sparrows, pigeons and mynahs have three toes in front and one at back.
This type of feet helps them to perch on a branch and even sleep.
Crow Sparrow Pigeon
Climbing birds: Birds such as
woodpecker and parakeet have
two front and two back toes. This
helps them to climb up and cling
to a tree. Woodpecker Parakeet
