                                                            to Kitchen

All of us know that food is necessary for life. Rice and wheat are India’s staple

foods. We also eat cereals, pulses, oilseeds, vegetables, and fruits. We rarely think

about the sources of our food.

Have you thought about how we get this food? Our farmers grow this food. They

work in the fields despite heat, rain, or cold. They work hard in the fields to grow

          the crops.

All crops do not grow in all seasons. Different crops grow in different seasons.

The process of growing crops is called cultivation. Farmers cultivate their fields

to grow different types of crops.

Farmers grow cereals like rice, wheat, maize and bajra.

They are the main food crops. They plough the soil and

put fertilizers and manure into it. Seeds are sown in the

soil and watered regularly. Seeds germinate and grow

into new plants. When the crops ripen, they are cut

down. The process of cutting down crops is known as
          harvesting.
