The harvested crop is neatly packaged and delivered to the wholesale market.
The food is transported in trucks, tractors and trains.
Shopkeepers bring this food from the wholesale market and sell it in their shops.
These shopkeepers are known as retailers.
Do you know how the food produced on the farms reaches our
kitchen?
We need many raw materials to cook food in our kitchen. We get most of these
raw materials from the farms. Food items such as fruits, vegetables, cereals,
pulses and spices are grown by farmers in their fields. They sell these food items
in the market. We buy these and use them in our kitchen to cook our food at
home. Thus, the food reaches our table.
Food Preservation
Food spoils quickly when exposed to air and moisture for a long period. It
produces a bad odour, and germs and moulds can grow on spoiled food.

We can preserve the food so that it stays fresher for longer. Preservation keeps
food safe from bacteria for longer periods while retaining its nutrients. There are
different methods of food preservation.
