Boiling: It helps to kill the germs in it. Boiling preserves
          food for a short period. We boil milk to preserve it.



                                      Salting: We can add salt to food

                                      items to preserve them, as in pickles.

                                        Did You   Himalayan salt is a pink-coloured salt found in Punjab
                                         Know?    region  of Pakistan,  near the  Himalayan  foothills.  It
                                                  contains  minerals  that  help  control  blood  pressure,
                                                  improve digestion, and reduce inflammation.

          Sweetening: Adding an excess amount of sugar

          also acts as a preservative. By adding sugar, we

          can preserve fruits in the form of jams and jellies

          for a long time.

          Drying: This method is used to reduce the water

          content  in the  food. Since  germs  cannot grow  without  water,  the  food  does

          not get spoiled. Food items are sun-dried to reduce the growth of germs. Food

          Refrigeration or freezing: Food stored in a refrigerator

          stays fresh for a few days. We freeze perishable foods such

          as fruits, vegetables,  meat, and fish in the refrigerator.

          Germs do not grow easily in cool places.

          Canning:  Some food items such as juices  and jams are

                                            preserved in  cans.  Cans are

                                            sealed  after  removing  moisture

                                            in air-tight containers.
