“Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the

            shadows.”

Helen Keller was one of the 20th century’s most prominent

advocates for disabled people. She was famous for her
achievement against the limits of both blindness and

            deafness.

At 18 months old, she had a fever that caused her to Hellen Keller

become blind and deaf. Helen Keller mastered sign language and braille with
the help of an excellent teacher. She learned to speak some years later. She

became the first deaf and blind person to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Helen Keller wrote ‘The Story of My Life’, the first book by a deaf-blind person,

in 1903. She showed to the world that deaf people can communicate just like
everyone else if given the proper tools. She was a role model to many.

            Life Skills and Values

Many people around the world are unable to see, speak, hear, or walk
normally. These are persons with special needs, sometimes known as

             differently-abled people.

Treat everyone the way you would like to be treated.

Always ask before offering help. Just because someone has a disability
does not mean they require your help. Avoid showing sympathy.
