What happens to the fallen leaves?
When leaves fall they rot and get mixed with the soil. The leaves completely
decompose and become manure within 2–3 months. This manure is rich in
nutrients and is very good for the growth of plants.

Know? A compost pit is the dumping of biodegradable material
like vegetable and fruit peels, used tea and coffee leaves,
egg shells, brown card board paper in a pit to decompose,
resulting in the production of manures and fertile soil
ingredients.
Uses of the leaves
We eat many leaves like mint, spinach, coriander, fenugreek, cabbage as
vegetables.
• Dried tea leaves are used to prepare tea.
• Henna (Mehendi) leaves paste is used to make beautiful designs on
hands. They are also used to colour the hair.
• Tulsi, neem and eucalyptus leaves are used to make medicines.
• People decorate the doors of their houses with mango tree leaves.
• In villages, large dried coconut tree and date palm tree leaves are used
to build roofs of huts.
