The process by which plants prepare their food

is called photosynthesis. Photo means ‘light’ and

          synthesis means ‘putting together’.

           Do You
Know? Chlorophyll, a green pigment, gives green plants
their colour. Chlorophyll helps in the photosynthesis
process. It absorbs energy from sunlight. This
energy is used by the leaves to produce sugar,
                     which serve as plant food.

                                                                                              Photosynthesis
          Different types of leaves

Different plants have different kinds of leaves. We can recognise plants by

          looking at their leaves.

          Leaf patterns

Leaves are of different shape, size, colour, texture and smell.

Shape of the leaves: Leaves of some plants are round, oval or flat. Leaves

of some plants are needle-shaped or triangular shaped.

                                                               prepare food?
