Omnivores
Some animals eat both plants and animals. Animals that eat both plants
and animals are called omnivores or plant and flesh eating animals.
Examples – Peacock, sparrow, dog, bear.
Human beings are also omnivores as they eat vegetables, fruits, nuts,
grains, meat and fish.
Peacocks feed on a variety of things such as
tender leaves, seeds, insects, snakes and lizards.
They have sharp, pointed beaks instead of teeth.
Sparrows eat seeds and insects. They do not have
teeth. Bears eat wild fruits and fish. They too have
long pointed teeth that help them kill other animals.
Scavengers
Some animals eat the flesh of dead animals. Animals that eat the flesh or
remains of other dead animals are called scavengers.
Examples – Vulture, Hyena.
Scavengers keep the ecosystem clean by eating the
remains of dead animals and plants.
Vultures do not hunt for food. They eat the remains
of dead animals. Vulture eating dead animals
Hyenas eat leftovers of animals killed by other animals.

Know? Vultures clean up the nature. They clear the land
of decaying dead bodies and help to prevent the
spread of harmful diseases and bacteria. Their
stomachs contain powerful enzymes that remove
harmful poisons and germs.
