          These are filled  with  rainwater during the rainy  season. During the

          summer, the snow on the mountain melts and pours into the rivers. So,

          the rivers contain water throughout the year.

          Rain water seeps into the soil and collects underground. This is called

          underground water. When this

          underground water rises to

          the  surface, lakes are formed.

          Water in lakes, ponds and
          rivers  is called  surface  water.

          This water  can be drawn out

          through wells, handpumps and

          tube wells.
