Did You
Know? NGOs stand for Non-Government Organisations. These are welfare voluntary
organizations set up by some responsible, willing and motivated persons. They work
for different reasons such as health, education, and urban and rural development.
NGOs operate independently from the government and are not-for-profit organisations.
The Indian Red Cross Society and Help Age India are some popular NGOs.
Culture
The way people live is their culture. Food, clothing, language and celebrations
are a part of our culture. People find their identity and sense of belonging in their
culture. Every community has its own set of traditions and rituals that have been
passed down through the ages.
Festivals: Everywhere in the world, communities celebrate festivals. Festivals
are often linked with our religion, culture and the changing seasons. They improve
relationships between communities and make our lives happier. Beautiful decor,
traditional food, dancing, music, and social gatherings are characteristics of
festivals.
Ceremonies: Celebrations of birthdays, marriages, anniversaries and other
events are part of many cultures, customs and traditions. These ceremonies are
very important both culturally and spiritually.
