Bridges

Take a look around your community and

see the different things built by people. You

find buildings, roads, street lights, markets,

bridges, flyovers, petrol pumps, bus stands,
railway stations, and many more.

How are all these things built?

In the olden days, people used mud to build
their houses. Bamboo was used to give

support. Different types of leaves were used

to thatch the roof. People built bamboo and

rope bridges to cross rivers and canals.

Building materials used today

In present days construction work is one of the major activities for people. We

construct permanent houses, apartments,

multi-storey buildings, markets, malls and

bridges. Today we use bricks, cement, sand,

gravel, steel rods, wood, glass, marble and tiles
to make buildings and other structures.
